Macking with Mac?

No, this has nothing to do with the Macintosh, Apple or any more of the PC-Mac debate. This is a very gossipy Wednesday morning post about a couple of personalities from the bubbling world of technology TV - or more specifically, a couple who were a couple.

The story so far...

One upon a time, there was this Oregon-born, Vegas-grown, DOE-schooled dude called Robert Kevin Rose. After doing time with a place that could go by the "Area 51" moniker, he went over to the bright side and got in front of a camera at a television network called "TechTV". Deals and steals were his forté, and he did 'em well, going on to earn the oft-used title of "The Dark Tipper".

He shared screenspace with a lovely lass called Sarah Lane; a California-grown broadcast major whose on-screen focus was cool websites and other Internet goodies, and off-screen focus was Kevin.

The network got acquired by another. They moved down to La-La-land; and hosted the show that shot them to fame. They were soon joined on the show by another co-host whose claim to fame was feeble humor and an undying desire to be front-and-center on the screen at all times.

In the meanwhile, stretching back to his time with the original network, Kevin made friends with folks who had similar interests in all things security, etc. and started releasing Web-only video content in the form of "video magazines" dedicated to 'security stuff', in a matter of speaking. Cut back to the present, since this new network's theme wasn't exactly 'all things tech', Kevin decided to part ways with the new network and focus his time solely on these Web-only releases. Sarah stayed on.

However, one of Kevin's old show hosts from the original network was working with the Canadian branch of the original network - one that had retained the 'all things tech' flavor and was doing pretty well with the viewers. On this network, one the tech shows had a pretty face called Amber Mac.

About a month or so before this "story" was written, Sarah's websites, which usually were full of cameraphone pictures and otherwise nonchalant references to Kevin, started showing an absence of both. Ditto Kevin's.

Meanwhile, Kevin released some content on his new Web-only video magazine, and also participated in some audio-only tech-related "broadcasts" put together by the old TechTV crew.

Cut to the present, we have Kevin flying to Canada and catching up with Amber the next day, for Amber's birthday.

It may be the end of one of the best couples on technology TV, or perhaps its the start of another.  However, it is definitely the end of the time I had set aside to write up this little story, and the start of my day.

So, why the "public service" with this intricate, almost-stalker-like curiosity and detailed post about people whom I'd probably never meet?

Well, for starters, I have met Kevin, and Sarah. And I dig what they do in the world of technology. The world needs more non-dorky faces demystifying the Internet and all things tech.

Second, its the Wednesday before the big Fourth of July weekend / break. Figured you'd need something to pull you through the rest of the week.

And finally, because I can.

Enjoy.
